    Blacksmithing & Heritage Metalwork

Foundation Learning Pathway - Blacksmithing & Heritage Metalwork

From Georgian iron railings to cathedral gates, heritage metalwork is everywhere in the historic environment. A blacksmith works hot metal with a hammer on an anvil - a process barely changed in 3,000 years. This pathway covers metals identification, the forge toolkit, basic forging operations, conservation of historic ironwork, and a career path through BTEC qualifications, BABA membership, and the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths.
